The complex numbers - based on the imaginary unit, the root of minus one - open up new worlds to mathematically interested thinkers. The number i makes it possible to solve equations that have no solution in the space of real numbers. In mathematics, it is a no-go to accept that an equation has no solution! Since calculating with these numbers, at first considered "meaningless", seemed to be a mere game, one was even more surprised that this "game" very often yielded valuable results or allowed to give already known results a more satisfying form.
Carl Friedrich Gauss succeeded in a geometrical interpretation of the complex numbers and groundbreaking scientific concepts such as quantum field theory are based on them. Today, one often recognizes the beauty and elegance inherent in these numbers. Thus, this work of art, with its playful complexity, also points to exploring the limits of the possible again and again.
About informal painting:
The artworks of contemporary informal art are like a declaration of love to color, to freedom, to life. They are like a gift to the world, an inspiration for the future, a symbol of human creativity. They are celebrating the magic of beauty and are therefore timelessly anchored in the history of art.
Michel Tapié, the inventor of the term Art Informel, thus created a unique link between the various abstract art movements of the post-war period. With the rejection of any representational or concrete forms and composition, he created space for the free development of color on the canvas.
